Keyboard

A

Input device. Has keys which when pressed send a digital code to the computer. Gives computer commands.

A

Standard layout for a keyboard.

Mouse

A

Input device. Hand is used to move mouse on a flat surface which makes the cursor on screen move. Movement is detected by sensors or a rotating ball.

Trackerball

A

Works like an upside down mouse. It stays still, the user moves the ball and makes the cursor move.

Tracker pad

A

Aka touch sensitive pad. User moves fingers on pad to make cursor move. Used on laptops.

Joystick

A

Like a mouse but is used for gaming. Also used for hospital scanners, CCTV cameras, construction equipment.

Digital camera

A

Light is received through the lens, converted into digital signals. Photographs can be stored on a computer, printed or changed.

Advantages of digital cameras

A

No film, can take photos over and over. Can see picture immediately on PC. Able to edit photos and print photos without needing to process the film. Can take more photos than on film.

Methods of transferring images from a digital camera.

A

Bluetooth. Plug a USB cable from the camera into the computer. Use a card reader.

Scanner

A

Scans a page: light moves across the page, reflected light picks up the image, image is transmitted to the computer. Images can then be edited etc.

Touch screen

A

User touches screen, infrared sensors detect position.

Advantages of touch screens

A

Don’t require a keyboard and mouse. Easy to use. No training needed. Easy to reprogram if changes need to be made.
