A process where attempts to control deviance lead to increased deviance, creating a cycle that makes the problem appear worse than it originally was.

Primary deviance is the initial act, often without a lasting impact on identity.
Secondary deviance is when the deviant identity becomes internalized due to societal reaction or labeling.
What is the negotiation of justice?
justice is not applied uniformly but is negotiated through interactions between individuals and officials, influenced by social factors like class and communication. This means that decisions in the justice system depend on subjective interpretations rather than being purely objective or fixed.
What are folk devils and moral panics?
Folk devils are individuals or groups who are portrayed as the embodiment of evil or wrongdoing, blamed for social problems. They become scapegoats and are often stereotyped negatively by the media and public.
