Interactions with Ecosystem Flashcards
(14 cards)
What are Actions that affect the Environment negatively?
1) Wasting Food
2) Using more Electricity
3) Using more water
4) Creating excessive waste
How does wasting food affect the environment?
Wasting food is essentially wasting Earth’s limited resource as they require water, energy, minerals and other resources
How does using more electricity affect the environment?
Electrical Energy in Singapore is obtained by burning natural gas which is limited and can run out anytime. This is why we preserve electrical energy.
How does using more water affect the environment?
There is less fresh water compared to other types of water. It is limited resource which it should be concerned.
How does creating excessive waste affect the environment?
When excessive water is produced, more waste needs to be disposed of. Some of it pollutes land, water and air.
What are Actions that affect the Environment positively?
1) Reducing the use of fossil fuels
2) Reducing consumption
3) Introducing environmentally friendly practices
4) Reforestation
How does reducing the use of fossil fuels affect the environment?
We can replace objects that depend on the burning of fossil fuels with energy-efficient appliances.
How does reducing consumption affect the environment?
When we reduce the consumption by minimising the use of paper, reusing items and recycling, we reduce the need for raw materials.
How does introducing environmentally friendly practices affect the environment?
Initiatives (such as ‘Bring your own Bag’) can encourage us to be environmentally friendly which reduces the emission of greenhouse gases.
How does reforestation affect the environment?
Reforestation is the process of growing plants in hhopes of the plants storing carbon due to the process of photoynthesis.
What is a Habitat?
A habitat is where a certain organism lives.
What are the physial factors that influences an organism’s body into adapting to it?
- Air
- Water
- Temperature
- Light
- Minerals
- Acidity
- Alkalinity
What are the structural adaptations of a King Cobra?
- Poisonous venom; it helps in its hunt for prey
- Forked Tongue; used to sense prey using a keen sense of smell to find its prey.
- Inner ears; to hunt its prey by detecing vibrations.
