Q

Tell me about yourself?

A

I am newly married, have 2 dogs, and just bought a house that my husband and are I currently renovating in Rosemount. I attended the UofM for a Bachelors degree in Kinesiology and after graduation I worked for a few years as a therapist in the Autism community in both Minneapolis and Rochester, and my husbands job brought us back up to the cities. I then started working in higher education at Rasmussen college as an academic advisor for about 2.5 years. Then, after being referred to Capella, I started working here as an Associate Enrollment Counselor which I was just recently promoted to an Enrollment Counselor in March. In addition to the EC role, I am a dedicated Microsoft Teams SME, Health and Wellness SME, Social SME and a TAAP SME and I also have been working on a special project in which I am helping create strategic ways to bridge the gap for learners between Enrollment and Advising.

Q

What is your understanding of this role

A

My understanding of this role is that an Account Manager is an exciting role within the employer pathways team. The Account Manager serves as a relationship manager to help manage Capella’s employer partnerships. The position may activate new partnerships in which we would find out more about the needs of that organization, it’s staff and its goals for staff retention. Once that partnership is developed we will work with them to devise strategies to use our amazing education programs at Capella to help their employees meet all required educational/compliance standards.Throughout these partnerships, it would be the Account Managers role to act as an accurate representation of a client’s interest to ensure that Capella performs at the high levels as a strong education partner, that provides support for employees and organizations through creatively meeting tuition, funding and benefits requirements.

Q

What excites you about this role

A

What excites me most about this role is the ability to take my experience and my passions and put them into one position. Here at Capella, I am an Enrollment Counselor so I have the pleasure of providing incoming students with their first impression of Capella and I get to initiate those relationships. At Rasmussen, I was on the Academic Advising side, where I was able to maintain relationships. I love working here at Capella and truly believe in what we are doing here in higher education. One of my favorite parts of the EC job is working with learners who are coming in to hear more about how their employer partners with Capella. I get to work with them so they understand not only the benefits of the partnership, but also the benefits of coming to Capella and how great of a place this is for the working adult. As an Account Manager, I would get to still have those conversations, but I could be having them with someone in an HR department or an Education Department and see through that thousands of their employees get to hear the wonderful things that Capella has to offer.

Q

Tell me about your previous experience. How will your previous experience correlate to this role?

A

Before coming to Capella, I worked as a server, a therapist for children with autism and then in higher education I worked as an Academic Advisor. Currently at Capella, I work as an Enrolment Counselor for our Nursing programs. In addition to my role as an EC, I am the health and wellness SME, the social SME, the microsoft teams SME as well as the TAAP SME for my team. In my past and current positions I have so much experience in customer relations. Whether it was taking orders, working with non-verbal children and helping communicate progress between those children and parents, and then working as an Academic Advisor, I have developed so many skills when it comes to communicating which include exceptional listening, conflict management, empathy, and the ability to work on a team. I have also established how to start relationships as well as build and maintain those relationships- for instance, my last position as an Academic Advisor worked with students from their second week of classes to graduation. I was there to make sure that they had all the necessary tools to be successful in their program, and help navigate the student to graduation. In my current job as an EC, I have vast knowledge of Capella’s nursing programs and Capella in general, and I truly believe in what we are doing here. I also currently work in SalesForce and Teams

Q

Why are you leaving your current job?

A

This is one of the first times within a company I am looking for a job, but am not dissatisfied with my current position. Andy McPherson who works on employer healthcare is an account manager, and when they had an opening last fall reach out to me directly as he thinks that I would be a great fit for the position. After discussing things with him in addition to 5 other Account Managers, I realized that this is exactly the route that I’m looking to go to expand on my career.

Q

What are your greatest strengths?

A

Ability to multitask- Throughout my day, I am answering phone calls, emailing, meeting with students and also working on side projects. I do a great job toggling between all of these things, as well as adapting to whatever situation is put in front of me. Another strength I have is how efficiently, but still accurately I am able to get through tasks in front of me and my ability to stay organized within it all

Q

What are your greatest weaknesses?I

A

I can be a little bit of a control freak when it comes to my work and I like to make sure things are done in a certain way. I work very hard to maintain the relationships with my learners and create the most positive experience. I go above and beyond for my learners to make their enrollment process go smoothly. If my learner calls in and speaks to one of my team members, I try really hard to not circle back with the student and trust that my teammate has also offered exceptional care when handling my students, but my type A can sometimes get the best of me.

Q

Where do you see yourself in five years?

A

I am really passionate about the work I do and would love if there were opportunities for me down the line to mentor other employees or new recruits to be successful within this position, perhaps as a manager or supervisor

17
Q

Can you tell me about a difficult work situation and how you overcame it?

A

When I first started my job at Capella, I was supposed to be in a 100% non remote position. 5 days after starting my job, I was told that due to COVID we were going 100% remote. I had to persevere in the situation, and I did by making sure that I worked extra hard at connecting with my team mates (some of who I never met!) to make sure that

About 6 months ago, we had a lot of pressure put on my advising team to be more accurate with forecasting retention. In the quarters before, we were disorganized, we lacked communication with each other, and we did not have a solid strategy to help us forecast retention. For a solution to this problem, I designed and implemented a forecast tracker using a GoogleDoc. This tracker keeps track of our personal goals set each quarter, it keeps track of how we are pacing, and it keeps track of current trends and retention percentages. It helps us all keep organized with how we are pacing, if we need to adjust forecasts to goals, and it also helps keep the team motivated to trend towards our goals.

18
Q

What is your salary range expectation?

A

That’s a great question! It would be helpful if you could share what the range is for this role.

I was hoping for something more in the $69-to-$75K range, but I’m definitely open to negotiating based on the entire compensation package.”

19
Q

Why should we hire you?

A

I feel that I would make a great addition to the employer team because I have a great work ethic. I am an organized, self-motivated and a competitive team player. I think that this skill set would be a great asset to the company.
