What is ASERNIP-S?
Australian Safety and Efficacy Register of New Interventional Procedures- Surgical. The formal evaluation process for for new interventional procedures/ surgeries.
What are issues considered by the ASERNIP-S team?
Clinical safety, efficacy and effectiveness, cost-benefit analysis, training of all staff involved in the procedure, ensure no conflicts of interest, informed consent from patients, follow up regime should be followed, auditing of results and re-evaluation once procedure is introduced
What is the ASERNIP-S procedure when new intervention brought to them?
Systematically review the new procedure and prepare a statement covering safety compared to comparative procedure, efficacy compared to comparative procedure, evidence rating. They may suggest further data is required.
What are the main principles to consider when a new product is being introduced?
- Patient safety and the principle of ‘do no harm

Why is Richie McCaw a good leader?
He inspired confidence in those around him and consistently lead by example. He pushed his team mates to bring out the best in them. Great leaders take responsibility when things go wrong and set about making things right. Great leaders also recognise and reflect on what makes it possible for them to keep fulfilling their role and supporting their team. McCaw talked a lot about how he needed time away from the pitch and took up gliding. He was also incredibly disciplined and had set routines that would support him in crucial matches to allow mental space for decision making and risk taking in high pressure scenarios.
