Difference between management and leadership?
- manager coordinates individuals to fulfil goals
- leader sets a vision and enthuses others to achieve this
What is compartment syndrome?
Prolonged pressure in a closed osteofascial compartment leading to ischaemia.
What is a Rhomboid/Limberg flap?
Random pattern transposition flap. Angles should be 60 degrees and 120 degrees
What is a Banner flap?
Finger-shaped random pattern transposition flap
What is a Zitelli flap?
Bilobed transposition flap with centre of rotation 1 radius away from defect, first lobe of similar height to defect and second lobe 1 radius higher
What is an Abbe flap?
Used in lip reconstruction, Abbe flap is a cross-lip flap. Can be used for defects between 1/3 - 2/3rds. Pedicle is divided at 3 weeks.
What is an Estlander flap?
Used in lip reconstruction with a lateral defect, Estlander is a cross lip flap where the point of rotation is the oral commisure. It is a single stage procedure
What is the Karapandzic flap?
Used in lip reconstruction, it is a circumoral advancement flap (myocutaneous) to close upper/lower central lip defects
What is Pitanguy’s line?
5mm below tragus to 15mm lateral to eyebrow. Course of temporal branch of facial nerve (supplies frontalis muscle)
What is a Tenzel flap?
Semicircular advancement-rotation flap used in eyelid reconstruction. Lateral canthotomy, undermining of lateral tissue to aid in closure of defect that is too large for direct closure but still less than 66-75% width
What is McGregor flap?
Used in eyelid reconstruction, this is similar to Tenzel flap but used Z-plasty at lateral wound. Transposition Advancement flap
What is Cutler-Beard flap?
Used in eyelid reconstruction, it is a 2-stage procedure to recon with full thickness advancement flap (lower to upper), tunnelling flap under an intact lower lid skin bridge. Pedicle divided at 6-8 weeks. May also need cartilage graft
What is Modified Hughes flap?
Used in eyelid reconstruction, a 2-stage procedure using full thickness advancement flap (upper lid to lower lid). Pedicle divided at 14 days. Leave at least 4mm tarsus in upper lid.
What is Mustarde Cheek flap?
Used in lower lid reconstruction (>75%), large rotational flap + composite graft for cartilage and mucosa.
What is Mathes and Nahai class 1? (And two examples?)
Single vascular pedicle
(TFL, Gastrocnemius)
What is Mathes and Nahai class 2? (And two examples?)
One major vascular pedicle snd minor vascular pedicle(s)
Eg Gracilis, Soleus
What is Mathes and Nahai class 3? (And two examples?)
Two dominant pedicles
Eg serratus anterior, Gluteus maximus
What is Mathes and Nahai class 4? (And two examples?)
Multiple segmental pedicles
Eg sartorius, EHL
