Q

Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult person. What was the outcome.

A

I had an employee that would always call in sick with every excuse under the sun. They were given many warnings before we decided to let that individual go. I took him aside separately outside and explained to him that unfortunately it would not work out.

They proceeded to enter the establishment three separate times in the span of 10 minutes asking to be re hired, I calmly and firmly told them that unfortunately their time at that establishment was over.

Q

Describe a situation where you had to think on your feet.

A

Customers not getting the proper materials that were ordered, as assistant manager it was my choice to remedy these issues when the manager wasn’t around. I would call and re route my drivers, send another driver or myself.

In sales there are constant incidents where thinking on my feet is imperative.

Specifically, I had my factory tell me we no longer could manufacture seat lifts. The customer was already moved into their home so before calling them I found them a solution with a quicker lead time.

Q

Give an example of a time you resolved a conflict in a team

A

At Avafina we had conflicts regularly between staff. I would talk to both parties separately and see if we could come to a conclusion. Other times we would have morning meetings and would always have time for input on any issues the staff had thought of.

During my Team Tube days, I accidentally sold something in USD without converting it into CAD. I relied on others with more experience and expertise for assistance and formulated a plan with minimal impact on ourselves and the customer

Q

Have you ever been in a leadership role? How did you handle it

A

During my time at Avafina, I was very young and in my first real leadership role.

I recall a few times that I was stressed out. I made mistakes. But I learned from them. I learned how to better handle stressful solutions and learned that even if a few minutes spent formulating a plan is better than to rush into something

Q

Describe a time when you had to deal with an ethical dilemma

A

During my time at Avafina, there was an employee that got COVID during the beginning of the pandemic. I had a meeting with everyone outside and advised them that they were to decide if they felt comfortable with working or if they would decide to go home. As their boss I was informed by management that it was the incorrect decision as it caused delays in order progression.

I felt I did the right thing even if management disagreed with the little knowledge we had at the time.

Q

Tell me about a time you showed empathy in a difficult situation

A

I regularly deal with potential customers that are maimed, paralyzed or disabled. Often it’s the case that the elderly people that need these products are unable to afford it. Sometimes these older people just need someone to vent to. I’ve taken time out of my day even though other salesmen would’ve already brushed them off.
