-child labour and trafficking is common for cocoa plantations

reasons for migration
-corridor originated under French Colonial policy to develop BF as a labour reserve for agriculture and transport projects
-BF is landlocked and has low income- GDP =$684
-IC has 2x the GDP of BF
-short migration route
-employment opportunities in IC because it’s the largest exporter of cocoa
-more fertile land in IC –> more opportunities for migrant farmers
-shared language as both were french colonies

migration is seen as a household survival strategy- but working conditions are bad and there are problems of child labour and trafficking
