Q

CYP inducers

A

Reduces metabolisms of other medicines

  • results in increased metabolism of drugs and leading to decreases in plasma concentrations of drugs with loss of therapeutic efficacy
  • Certain drug like (ex: phenobarbital, rifampin, carbamazepine, phenytoin) are capable of inducing CYP isoenzymes

A

Inhibits drug metabolism

  • increases plasma drug concentration and adverse effects or drug toxicity

Q

Half life

A

How long medication stays in your system
Or
How long it takes to get out of your system

  • depends on concentration and elimination.

Ex: if kidneys shut down, half life would increase

Q

Equation
Half life (t1/2)

A

= 0.693 x vd/cl

If Cl is high - t1/2 will be slower
If vd is high - t1/2 will be longer
