What is biodiversity?
The variety of living organisms present in an area
Includes animals, plants, fungi, + other living things
What must biodiversity maintain?
A balanced ecosystem as all species are interconnected, relying on each other
Where is biodiversity lost?
Farming, clearing land for housing
Why is a balanced ecosystem needed?
To provide us with food, oxygen, + other materials to survive
Human actions can reduce biodiversity
What is the climate that has the most biodiversity?
Warm all year round
What is the climate that has less biodiversity?
Warm summers + cold winters
What is the climate that has the least biodiversity?
Very cold or very dry
What is used to take biodiversity into account before big projects are started?
Environmental impact assessment = Predicts positive + negative effects a project may have
