What is an ABIOTIC factor?
Relating to physical or chemical factors, non living. Eg. Climate, weather, soil, nutrients, light.
What is a BIOTIC factor?
Related to living things.
What does ADAPTATION mean?
The evolutionary process that leads to the development or persistence of an organisms behaviour and ability to survive and reproduce.
What is Ancient Woodland?
Woodland on sites that have been continually wooded since before 1600 in England.
What is an AUTOTROPH?
Organisms that obtain energy from an inorganic source, ie. Sunlight or inorganic chemical energy - plants: some bacteria
What does BIODIVERSITY mean?
The diversity of species, genetic information and habitats.
What does BIOMASS mean?
The total weight of all the living organisms or some designated group of living organisms in a given area.
What does BIOTIC Mean?
Relating to living things
What does CALCICOLE mean?
Plant species confined to soil with high pH (alkaline)
What does CALCIFUGE mean?
Plant species confined.to.soil with low pH (acidic)
CLADE meaning?
A group of biological taxa (as species) that include all the descendents of one common ancestor.
CLIMAX COMMUNITY meaning?
Plant community existing at the stable.end point of succession.
What does EPHEMERAL mean?
Ponds that dry in summer

The study and recording of dates of recurrent natural events (such as flowering plants or first/last migrating bird) in relation to seasonal climatic changes
