Psychologists rely on scientific research methods to unravel their answers. Collect data and use mathematical formulas to analyze results.

The scientific study of mental processes and behaviour.

Anything that you do

Anything that can’t be directly observed. (Thinking, feelings, dreams)

Most common type of career, they use their skills as therapists, assessment specialists and researchers to promote health in groups and individuals.

Conduct basic research in a number of subfields

Studies how brain structure relates to behaviour
Social psychologist?
How behaviour and mental processes are influenced by our interactions with others

Studies growth and development over a life span

Study mental processes.

Specializes in doing research and can be specialists in any of psychologies subfields
What is an applied psychologist?
Work to solve specific, practical problems rather than expanding the scientific knowledge base of psychology by applied research.
Forensic psychologist?
Apply law and research to legal issues
Sports psychologist?
Explore psychological issues involving the improvement of athletic performance
Educational psychologist?
How humans learn and look to improve the learning process. (Big picture)
Human-factors psychologist?
How people and machines interact, looks at maximizing safety and productivity.
Industrial/organizational psychologist?
Helping businesses and organizations run more efficiently
School psychologist?
Work to improve development of children in school settings. (Individual)

Research to figure out why people buy products
Rehabilitation psychologists?
Help those with medical issues
Health psychologists?
Research ways to prevent disease and promote health.
Social worker?
Has undergraduate or masters in psychology or social work. They want to improve the lives of others but are NOT psychologists.

Focuses on how our behaviour springs from unconscious drives and conflict. The behaviour is explained through unconscious motivation and unresolved inner conflict.
