Introduction to geometry terms Flashcards
(15 cards)
Line
A series of points that extends in 2 opposite directions without end
Line segment
Part of a line, consisting of 2 endpoints and all points between them
Congruent line segments
Line segments with the same measure
Midpoint
A point that divides a segment into 2 congruent segments
Bisector
A line that divides a given object into 2 equal parts
Ray
Part of a line consisting of one endpoint
Collinear points
Points that lie of the same line
Angle
Formed by 2 rays with the same endpoint called the vertex
Angle bisector
A ray that divides an angle into 2 congruent angles
Adjacent angles
Angles that have 1 side in common
Complementary angles
2 angles whose measures add up to 90 degrees
Supplementary angles
2 angles whose measures add up to 180 degrees
Linear pair
Angles formed by a straight line and a ray beginning on that line
Vertical angles
Angles opposite to each other formed by 2 straight, intersecting lines
Congruent
Equal in measure
