Investigating Neutralisation Flashcards
(8 cards)
What is hypothesis for experiment 1?
To investigate the changes in pH when 50cm3 of dilute hydrochloride acid is neutralised by adding solid calcium hydroxide.
What’s step 1 for 1st experiment?
Measure the initial pH of the acid by using a glass rod to place a drop of the solution on a piece of universal indicator paper. Use a colour chart to match the colour of the indicator paper to the pH level.
What’s step 2 for 1st experiment?
Add calcium hydroxide to the beaker of acid.
What’s step 3 for 1st experiment?
When the solid has dissolved, measure the pH of the solution. Repeat this until all the calcium hydroxide has been added.
What’s used in experiment 2 instead to measure pH?
pH meter
What’s step 1 of 2nd experiment?
Measure initial pH of the acid by placing the sensor in the solution and measuring the value on the pH meter.
What’s step 2 of 2nd experiment?
Add calcium hydroxide to the acid.
What’s step 3 of 2nd experiment?
When the solid has dissolved, measure pH of the solution. Repeat this until all the calcium hydroxide has been added.
