Ionsation Flashcards
(3 cards)
1
Q
What is it
A
energy required to remove an electron From an atom or ion.
2
Q
down a group ionisation energy decreases
why?
A
down. group te atomic radius increases. hence electrons are further away from the nucleus. the electrostatic force of attraction is weaker tense less energy is required to remove an atom.
3
Q
across a group ionisation energy increases
why?
A
across a period due to the decreases in the atomic radius as well as the increase in the number of protons( atomic no.) this results is a greater electrostatic force of attrition hence more energy is required to remove an electron
