IOTA 2 & 3 Flashcards
(22 cards)
Where does the spinal cord end at the brain?
At the Foramen Magnum - Cervicomedullary junction
What are components of the Brainste,?
Caudal: Medulla
Middle: Pons
Rostral: Midbrain
What separates the pons and the medulla?
Pontomedullary junction : cranial nerves 6,7,8
CN 6 exits - efferent
CN 7 enters and exits
CN 8 enters - afferent
What divides the midbrain and the pons?
Pontomesenphalic junction
What divides the midbrain and the duecephalon?
Midbrain-diencephalic junction
What structures make the diencephalon ?
Thalamus+ inter-thalamic adhesion (gateway to cortex)
Hypothalamus
What structures make the Cerebrum?
Cerebral hemisphere + Diencephalon
The cerebellum is inferior to?
Cerebrum
What are the 3parts of the brain?
Cerebrum = forebrain
Cerebellum
Brain stem
What are the 2 areas of the Forebrain (Cerebrum)
Diencephalon (deep in the brain) + Cerebral hemisphere
Components of Autonomic nervous systems?
Sympathetic nervous system
Parasympathetic nervous system
What are the components of the Cerebral hemisphere?
Cerebral cortex - surface cell bodies neurones
Basal nuclei - deep cell bodies
Hippocampus & amygdala - deep cell bodies : in medial-temporal lobe of brain
Function of hippocampus
Memory
What structure of the brain is responsible for emotions?
Amygdala
What a structures make the Limbic system?
Hippocampus + amygdala
This system is part of the Limbic lobe as this is connected to hippocampus and amygdala
What is a system ?
Group of nuclei sitting next to each other
What separates the Frontal lobe and Parietal lobe of the brain?
Central sulcus
What is the role of the parietal lobe?
Sensory function
What are the functions of the Frontal lobe?
Motor & goal setting
These are two distinct sections
What are the components of the Cerebral cortex?
Frontal lobe Parietal lobe Occipital lobe Temporal lobe Limbic lobe
What is the function of the Occipital lobe?
Visualisation of images
What is the functions of the Temporal lobe?
Auditory perception
