3
Q

Talk about IOTN

A

Two elements Dental health (DHC) & Aesthetic components (AC)
DHC = to standardize the need for treatment
Attempt to rank malocclusion using the worse feature
Intention to identify individuals who would most likely benefit from orthodontic treatment
AC = Aesthetics of an individual can be identified and rated to a common scale

Q

DHC - what is it used for?

A

Categorizes the severity of malocclusion into 5 Grades

Order of severity relative to the long term detrimental effects on the dentition

Hierarchical order acronym M.O.C.D.O.

Q

DHC - ‘‘x

IOTN?

A

x supernumerary

4x Presence of supernumerary teeth

21
Q

Aesthetic Component - talk about it

A

Scale of ten colour photographs showing different levels of dental attractiveness

Score reflects the aesthetic impairment

Developed to assess the impact of the appearance of the malocclusion on the patient

To determine the level of potential psychological damage

Used in conjunction with DHC
Patients can compare their teeth to photos

But it is subjective and difficult to accurately assess

22
Q

AC - grades

A

Grades 1 –10
1 most attractive 10 least attractive
Aesthetic =/> 6 qualify for NHS treatment
Grade 6 & 7 moderate /borderline need
Grade 8,9 & 10 Definite need for treatment

23
Q

AC - guidlines

A

The anterior teeth should be graded in their dental attractiveness as seen
No attempt should be made to predict the future appearance of the dentition
Stained restorations, chipped teeth, poor gingival conditions etc should be ignored in this assessment

24
Q

IOTN 5i

A

Impeded eruption of teeth (except 8s) due to crowding, displacement, the presence of supernumerary teeth, retained deciduous teeth and any pathological cause

25
IOTN 5h
5h Extensive hypodontia with restorative implications | > 1 tooth missing in any quadrant requiring pre-restorative orthodontics
26
IOTN 5a
5a Increased overjet greater than 9mm
27
IOTN 5m
Reverse overjet >3.5mm with reported masticatory and speech difficulties
28
What is the IOTN ? Less extensive hypodontia requiring pre-restorative orthodontics or orthodontic space closure to obviate the need for a prosthesis
4h
29
IOTN 4a
4a Increased overjet > 6mm = 9mm
30
IOTN 4b
4b Reverse overjet | >3.5mm with no masticatory or speech difficulties
31
IOTN 4m
Reverse overjet >1mm but
32
IOTN 4c
4c Anterior or posterior crossbites with >2mm discrepancy between rcp and icp
33
What is the IOTN ? | Severe contact point displacements > 4mm
4d
34
IOTN 4e
4e Extreme lateral or anterior open bites >4mm
35
IOTN 4f
4f Increased and complete overbite with gingival or palatal trauma
36
What is the IOTN? | Increased overjet >3.5mm but =6mm with incompetent lips
3a
37
IOTN 3b
3b Reverse overjet > 1mm = to 3.5mm
38
IOTN 3c
3c-Crossbite<2mm discrepancy between rcp icp
39
IOTN 3d
3d Contact point displacements>2mm=4mm
40
IOTN 3e
3e Lateral or anterior open bite > 2mm = 4mm
41
IOTN 3f
3f Deep overbite complete on gingival or palatal tissues but no trauma
42
IOTN 2a
2a Increased overjet >3.5=6mm with competent lips
43
What is the IOTN ? | Reverse overjet > 0mm = 1mm
