What class of medication is Ipratropium?
Anticholinergic/Parasympatholytic
What is the MOA of Ipratropium?
Inhibits interactions of acetylcholine at receptor sites on bronchial smooth muscle
Parasympatholytic used for treatment of respiratory emergencies
Causes bronchodilation and dries respiratory tract secretions
What are the indications for giving Ipratropium?
Bronchospasms due to Asthma or COPD exacerbation
What is the onset time for Ipratropium?
Varies (Usually <2 minutes)
What is the duration time for Ipratropium?
Peak: 90-120 minutes
Total: 4-6 hours
What are the contraindications for giving Ipratropium?
Hypersensitivity
What are the side effects for giving Ipratropium?
Headache, nervousness, dry mouth, palpitations
What is the trade name of Ipratropium?
Atrovent
What dose of Ipratropium is given?
One 0.5mg dose is given with Albuterol
By which route is Ipratropium given?
Nebulizer
