Context Sentence 1
Ireland before 1914 was a countr of rapidly increasing tension. Ireland was part of the british empire and had a long and difficult history with it, notably including the ulster plantations in the 17th centuary in which protestant brits were given catholic irish land.

This led to decisive split in the 32 countiies of the united ireland, the nine most northernly counties, which make up Ulster, had a majoirty protestant population whilst the rest of southern ireland was majoirty catholic.

- Sinn Fein had far far less political power than JR + IPP so less influential. + elections had far greater outreach.
- Sinn Fein by 1910 struggled to have enough numbers to run their executive.
