The ticket man was the great hero of the story.

At the beginning of the story he was suspicious and irritable and the reader likes him

He continued to disturb Liam and scare him for most of the story.

He realized that there was something about the old man that was not right and realised something strange was happening

Then when he realized that he had seen ‘Grandpa’ with a boy who had gone missing, he understood what was coming.

If he hadn’t called the Gardaí, another young boy would have been missing.

So the ticket man was a good person even though he was a little grumpy.

But above all, he was a kind person at heart and he wanted to protect Liam at all times.
