Q

Dred scott case

A

A slave named dred scott had been taken by his master from the slave state of missouri to Minnesota, which prohibits slavery. Soon sfter they got back to missouri the master dies. Scott attempts to sue the now widow of his master, because since he was living in a free territory (Minnesota) for a while, he was basically free. So he took this case to the supreme court but they couldn’t do anythjng about it. Banning slavery would’veb been a violation of the 5th ammendment, therefore the missouri compromise would’ve been unconstitutional. Slavery was allowed in any part of the united states. The Dred scott decision sent shockwaves throughout the country.
