Socialism
- Social and government system
- wanted social and economic equality

how is socialism different from communism?

Liberalism
- political and soical theory
- advocated representative government, free trade, and freedom of speech/religion
classical vs. modern liberalism
- Classical liberalism view government as the greatest threat to individual freedom
- Modern views unregulated businesses as greatest threat (CORPORATIONS). Government is viewed as a guardian against this.
Conservatism
-The general attitude that change must always begin with what came before
-works slowly
-from tradition
capitalism
-economic system
-investment in ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange of wealth is made and managed privately
- the “free market” determines prices
Nationalism
- an idea
- members of a shared community “nation” should sovereignty for their state (a ruler)
Communism
- economic and political system
-there is no private property - central government controls all aspect of economic production
- government is responsible for basic necessities

- idea
- equal treatment for women and men
imperialism
- the acquisition of new territories by a state and incorporating them into a political system as subordinate colonies
Neoclassicism
- Artistic movement of the late 18-19th century that emphasized greco-roman themes
- patriotism, heroic leadership
romanticism
- movement in art and literature from the late 18th century- 19th century
- as a reaction against the love of reason and order of the Enlightenment
- stressed intuition, emotion, and nostalgia from pre-industrialized land
Impressionism
A style of painting developed in the last 3rd of the 19th century, characterized by short brush strokes of bright colors to represent light on objects
Pros of socialism
- not profit minded but efficiency minded
- incentive to work harder for lower class, gives them chance to rise up
- Creates less income inequality
Cons of socialism
- Gives stupid people too much influence
- Contradicts classic liberalism
- Goes against industrialization and capitalism
Pros of Liberalism
Nationalists, both wanted individual rights

Lower class - allows less social mobility

- social protests lead to better conditons
- industrialization: divides classes so incentive to work hard

Conservatism (nationalists are conservative in their approach)
Romanticism - dislike anything radical
