Isotopes Flashcards
What is an Isotope
An Isotope is a different version of the same element, in which it has the same atomic number as the element on the periodic table but different atomic mass and neutrons.
Does Hydrogen isotopes have a different chemical symbol?
Yes, deuterium has a symbol of D while tritium is represented by the symbol T.
Are Hydrogen isotopes the same as other element isotopes?
No, because the chemical symbol of an isotope says the same as the original element except for hydrogen.
Carbon-14 Dating
A death organism no longer takes in carbon, which is why this technique allows for one to figure out how long an organism has been dead for.
How does Carbon-14 become reactive?
Carbon-14 reacts with oxygen in order to form radioactive carbon dioxide.
