What is censorship?
The practice of suppressing and limiting access to materials considered offensive or a threat to security
What is relative poverty?
I standard of a poverty measured in relation to the standards of society in which a person lives for example living on less than X percent of average UK income
What is absolute poverty?
An acute state of deprivation whereby a person cannot access the most basic of their human needs for example, no clean water healthcare or adequate housing
What is social justice?
Promoting a fair society by challenging, injustice and valuing diversity
What did Martin Luther King Jr. fight against?
Prejudice and discrimination of African-Americans in the 1960s.
He made speeches organised marches and boycott to peacefully stop discrimination.
He was inspired by his Christian beliefs and was eventually shot for his actions
What does JCORE do?
Provides refugee education and support it lives out the principle of tzedekah which is justice and gemillut hasadim which is good deeds
What are Christian views on wealth?
Wealth should be used to help others
“ let he who has two shirts share with the man who has none”
Greed is worse than wealth “ the love of money is the root of all evil”
Follow the example of Jesus by living out the parable of the good Samaritan and the rich man and Lazarus
What are Jewish views on wealth?
Teaching of tzedekah: should use wealth to be just in good
Gemilat hasadim: one should do kind actions to other
Tithe: one should give 10% of their wealth to the needy collected in pushkes
Support charities and repair the world
