Bartolo Mascarello

Barolo

  • Small estate run by Maria Teresa Mascarello
  • Nebbiolo offerings limited to Langhe Nebbiolo and Barolo
  • no chemical fertilizers or pesticides
  • all work done by hand
  • fermented in concrete with rudimentary temp control
  • kept on skins 30-50 days depending on vintage
  • Pump-overs are used early in the fermentation, followed by prolonged Capello Sommerso, or submerged cap maceration
  • 2.5-3 years in untoasted slavonian oak botti
  • bottled 3 years after september harvest and held for a year before release

Giuseppe Rinaldi

  • Winemaking is very traditional.
  • Wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts in ancient tini, tall upright oak vats, without temperature control and punchdowns are carried out by hand.
  • Wines are aged in old botti for around 3 ½ years.
