IUPAC Rules Flashcards
1st rule
Select the longest carbon chain as Main Chain
IUPAC consists of
Prefix, word, route, primary, suffix and secondary suffix
Yeah, how is the numbering done
Numbering is done from end closer to highest priority, functional group
What if acarbon containing functional group is present
Yeah, if carbon containing functional group is present and numbering starts from carbon of functional group irrespective of number of carbon in the longest Chain
What is Lowest set of Locant
Inorganic molecule is there or alternate ways of selecting Main chain then it should be done such that the set of locant and should be minimum
What do you mean by Locants
They are number representing position of side chain or functional groups
What if organic molecule is cyclic
Numbering of carbon cannot run from Cycle carbon to open chain carbon and vice versa
If organic molecule is cyclic prefix cyclo is used
If a substitute and functional group appears more than once, then what will be the IUPAC name?
If substitute and functional group appears more than once, then prefix, di ,tri, tetra etc can be use. Note that words Di ,tri ,tetra Are not considered in alphabetical order.
