What was the cause of this earthquake and tsunami in Japan?
A
The Pacific plate moves towards the North American plate at around 9cm a year, the oceanic plate (Pacific) is sub-ducted under the other plate. Pressure builds up causing a thrust upwards causing an earthquake. This caused a assize displacement of sea water causing the tsunami.
