14
Q

Why isn’t Ozzie afraid of conflict?

A

Jason’s father believed strength was not backing down. In a household where love wasn’t spoken conflict became the only form of intensity so when Ozzie fights it’s not always about winning it’s about feeling something real. He believes that if we’re fighting, at least we’re not pretending at least we care.

A

Maybe, if I would’ve been harder on you, your mom wouldn’t cry so much.

Tell me about the unspoken truth about Jason?
Jason wanted to be a good man. He just didn't know how not in the language the world expected he knew how to fix how to build how to sacrifice but not how to be soft. Not how to be seen. And certainly not how to be forgiven by himself or his son.
32
Why doesn't Jason go to church?
Referred to the tithing envelope and empty hands story. In Cincinnati in 1973 Jason was 13 years old two months after the furnace exploded. The house was still heavy with soot and silence. Chuck Rhodes was dead. Jason was the oldest boy at home. He worked weekends at Franklin's hardware swept floors after school at the community theatre and gave every dollar to his mother his back ache his shoes didn't fit, but he didn't complain. His mother Lorraine made sure they went to church every Sunday Grace Tabernacle for four years Ling to scripture like a lifeline Jason hoped they would help with groceries heat or something but they didn't not a casserole not a visit not a single offering envelope came back in full one Sunday morning Jason saw his mom Slide half his paycheck into a tie the envelope that's for the Lord she said when he protested the Lord didn't show up when the furnace exploded he muttered that afternoon he came home to a freezing kitchen. Jason's younger sisters started crying because their socks were wet from melted snow and one night he sat in the living room in the dark with a wool blanketand whispered to the empty living room. They said God helps those who help themselves so I did and where the hell was he?
