(20 cards)
It is a long duration exercise that requires continuous supply of oxygen. For example– working against water’s natural resistance.
Aerobic Exercise
Any form of exercise that requires less oxygen. For example-short swim sprints.
Anaerobic Exercise
Swimming is a movement of the limbs.
Action
It means moving air into and out of the lungs.
Breathing
The moment when the hands start to exert pressure on the water during an arm stroke
Catch/catch point
It is a practiced exercise to improve specific aspects of technique
Drill
An alternative vertical kick used in front crawl and backstroke.
Flutter Kick
Streamlined arrow-like positions as the body moves thru water with no leg action.
Glide
The common term for front crawl stroke.
Freestyle
It means a temporary shortage of oxygen in the body created by exertion. With practice, your body will learn to cope with less oxygen when you are swimming.
Oxygen deficit
The part of the stroke performed by the legs and feet.
Kick
Training drill in which only the legs are used.
Kicking
Part of the stroke performed by the arms.
Pull
The training drill in which only the arms are used.
Pulling
The part of arm action after the pull and before recovery.
Push
A method of propulsion thru the water.
Stroke
It refers to small inwards and outwards movements with the hands and arms.
Sculling
The pressure
exerted by the water at equilibrium due to the force of gravity.
Hydrostatic pressure
An upward force of the water on an object. This is the reason why boats
and people float on water. It also gives a weightlessness feeling, which makes it easier to move,
lift knees, or even jog on water.
Buoyancy
Racing over a body of water on one-man watercraft machine.
