Q

Weilhausen

A

german scholar who came up with this theory. He used it to try and wrestle it away from the jews. He did this by saying the only credible source is the J source, because it is closest to Christianity. The rest of them are too preoccupied with the law, which distracted from a relationship with God and thus Christ.

Q

Eichrodt

A

german scholar who disagreed with Weilhausen. He thought that the law was a higher power and thought but judaism could not teach Christianity something because it was a degradation of the law. He saw the Old testament as paving the way for Jesus and the covenant and laws that the jews couldn’t live up to is why Jesus was needed.

Q

Levenson

A

Both Jews and Christians try to fit every peice of information about the scripture into their traditions and hush things that cannot fit. Evidence and findings about biblical times have advanced but the study of theology has not because people are unwilling to look at the texts differently. Both Christians and Jews should do so.
