Q

Top 3 qualities of a FO/ What attributes will you bring? CHRT

A

CHRT
1. Customer service skills- Apollo bay marketing/scenic/commentary, Seair much more mature pax brief (first impression)/commentary

  1. Hard working, dedicated, willing to learn- throughout career progression, earned. I use the 5 Ps
Important in Jetstar, will always work on knowledge, become captain
  2. Resilience- can overcome obstacles. Eg. moving overseas. Also constructive criticism- always been able to accept advice from senior pilots
  3. Teamwork/good communicator - Canada very tight knit team (3000lb freight as pilot pitched in to help loaders)
Seair- very team oriented- help each other get ready, keep aircraft movements on time.

These all contribute to upholding the 6 Jetstar core values

Q

Do you know anyone working in Jetstar? -That can tell you the good and the bad?

A

-a First Officer based on the Gold Coast
-opportunity to work for a successful airline with an upgrading fleet
-job security of being part of the Qantas group-
Potential negatives would be managing fatigue with 5 day weeks/ 4 sector days with 5am starts, into late Bali flights landing at 2am Sydney time.
Also with the introduction of the neo into 2 crew medium haul with longers sectors.
Another guy I met recently at a family wedding is a Captain in Melbourne and he spoke very highly of a relaxed and positive environment during checks.

Q

Tell us about yourself and motivation for flying and flying history? Tell me how you got here?

A

Start off with introducing yourself, interests, current position.
-close loop- summary of current employment.
-finish with excited and ready to take next step

-my father flew twin otters for aeropelican near Newcastle whilst I was growing up so I was exposed to aviation from a young age, getting to sit up front.
-I finished school, completed my cpl and attained my first job doing scenica as over the 12 apostles in Victoria.
- from there I did my instrument rating and was fortunate to get a job flying a 206 in Fiji. As a single pilot operation I was required to be chief pilot and maintenance controller so this was a steep learning curve.
-idea to go to Canada. Planned it out and was successful in finding job. Started on 206 and through hard work earned progression onto 208.
-returned to Australia and worked for seair since 2018. I’m grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had flying the 208, otter and kingair, however I am ready for a change and very excited at the prospect of flying for Jetstar.

Q

Weakness?

A

-I’m very open an honest. Sometimes I’ll say things I’d been meaning to keep to myself. I’m aware of this, so now I try and slow down and make a conscious effort to think about things before I speak.

Q

Why did you choose to work at your current company?

A

-returning home from Canada at the end of my 2 year working visa and wanted to organise a job to start as soon as possible when I got back.
-wanted to find a company that would allow further progress onto twin engine aircraft and as well as living in a nice location after spending the past 2 years in remote northern Canada.
-I looked online at all the companies operating caravan aircraft (as this gave me the best prospect of employment) whilst also having twins in their fleet. I contacted several and set up interviews for when I got back.
-After doing a trip up to Darwin to meet with Hardys Aviation and then to the Gold Coast for Seair I was offered both jobs but chose Seair because while Hardys offered possibly faster progression, Seair offered the chance to live on the Gold Coast and also the possibility of flying the twin otter which greatly interested me because my father had flown them for many years whilst I was growing up. And it was such a rare aircraft type to have the opportunity to fly in Australia these days.
