Circumcision

Covenant
Solemn promise or agreement between two people or groups of people.

The ability to make our own choices.
Judgement
God will judge you based on your actions and will reward/punish as a result.
Messiah
Future leader of the Jews, expected to live on earth and bring peace to the whole world.
Messianic Age
The term used by Jewish people to refer to the period of world peace and harmony.
Mitzvot
A Jewish law (commandment)
Monotheistic
Judaism is a monotheistic religion meaning they believe there is only one God.
Omnipotent
God is all powerful.
Omnipresent
God is everywhere at once.
Omniscient
God is all knowing.
Orthodox Jew
Strictly follow laws and practices in the Torah.
Pikuach Nefesh
The obligation to save a life, even if doing so breaks Jewish law.
Promised Land
The land of Israel/Canaan which God promised to the Jews.
Rabbi
Jewish religious leader.
Reform Jew
Believe Jewish laws and practices should be re-interpreted to suit modern life.
Resurrection
The belief that at the end of the world the body will rise and God will judge them.
Sanctity of life
Human life is sacred and a gift from God so should be protected and respected.
Shabbat
Jewish holy day of the week, Friday evening to Saturday evening.
Shekhinah
The belief the God can focus his presence in a certain area/place, on earth (NOT belief of God as/having a physical presence).
Shema
A Jewish prayer which affirms belief in the one God.
Talmud
Commentary on the Torah, purpose is to teach. Made up of Mishnah and Gemara (the oral law).
Temple
The centre of Jewish worship, meeting place between God and the priest.
Torah
The written law. The first five books of the Tenakh.
