  • -> Denial of civil rights
  • From 1933 to 1938, the Nazis deprived the Jews of their rights as German citizens.
  • Refused them police protection
  • 1 April 1933, SA men organized a boycott of Jewish shops.
  • April 1933: Jewish civil servants dismissed
  • September 1933, Jews were banned from inheriting land.
  • 1935: Parks, swimming baths, restaurants and public buildings were all closed to Jews.
  • Nuremberg Laws made illegal sexual intercourse and marriage between Germans and Jews.
  • In schools, Jewish children humiliated in front of their class

1938-1941

A

9 November 1938: Kristallnacht→ a night of violence against Jews→ Jewish shops and synagogues ransacked and destroyed→ many people were killed or injured.

After 1938, the Jews were no longer allowed to trade and they were deprived of the right to choose their children’s names and had to keep to an approved list.
In 1941, they were forced to wear a large, yellow six-pointed star sewn on their cots and they were segregated into ghettoes.

1941-1945

  • -> The Holocaust –> Introduced during the Second World War
  • German SS and police murdered nearly 2,700,000 Jews in the killing centres either by asphyxiation with poison gas or by shooting.
  • Six million Jewish men, women and children were killed during the Holocaust (⅔ of the Jews living in Europe before World War II)
