joints Flashcards
(51 cards)
joint are
(articulations) are sites where bones meet. hold skeleton together, give mobility, weakest parts of skeleton
structural classification :
fibrous, cartiagious, synovial,
funcational classification
synarthroses, amphiarthoroses, diarthroses
fibrous
bones connected by fibers
cartilaginous
bones bound by cartilage
synovial
bones seperated by a joint cavity with synovial fluid
synarthroses
immovable, syn= together arthr= joined
amphiarthroses
slightly movable, amphi = on all sides
diarthroses
freely movable dia= apart
3 types of fibrous tissue
sutures, sydesmoses gomphoses
sutures
occur only in skull.
synostosis
fibrous tissue ossifies in adults that becomes a boney joint called synostosis
synssmoses
bones joined by ligaments
gomphoses
attachment of teeth in sockets gomph = nail
cartilagious joints
two types :synchondroses and symphyses
synchodroses
bones joined with hyaline cartilage
symphyses
two bones joined together by fibro cartilage
synovial joints
articulating bones seperated by fluid filled cavities
articular cartilage
hyaline cartilage, overs opposing bone surfaces
joint cavity
filled with synovial fluid a slippery lubricant that reduces friction and removes wastes
articular capsule
encloses joint cavity, made of connective tissue
tendon
strip or sheet of tough collagenous connective tissue that attaches a muscle to a bone
ligament
attaches one bone to another
bursa
fibrous sac filled with synovial fluid that cushions muscles and helps tendons slide more easily.
