explain the difference between the federal and state court systems.
federal court deals with laws that apply to the entire US
state courts deal with state laws and each state would have its own system from its own state constitution.

trial courts hear cases for the first time and review evidence to decide who’s right. Federal courts are called district courts.

the jury in a trial has 12 people listen to evidence and decide the case.
explain the purpose of appellate courts.
the appellate courts let the decision of the trial court stand, or change it. They can also make everything start over and send the case back to the trial court.
how is supreme court different from the other courts.
supreme has 9 justices, it has power over federal laws, it appeals court decisions for errors.

affirm, reverse, remand.
what does it mean for a court to affirm reverse or remand a decision
affirm means to let the trial court stand
reverse means to change the trial court choice
remand means to send the case back to the start (trial court)

a precedent is important bc it is involved with the supreme court.
