Q

Navigation by stars, things to be considered

A

(a) The pole star remains stationary at all times. Its direction is approximately
within 2 degrees of true North.
(b) All stars except pole star move from East to West. They seem to rise in the
East and set in the West, because earth revolves from West to East.
(c) Different stars and planets are visible at different times of the night and
vary their position in the sky at fixed intervals.
(d) Each star and constellation remains constant in its relation to the others.
(e) Stars rise four minutes earlier each night. For example one particular star
rising 1840 hours at point A will rise 1836 hours at the same point on the following day.
