Key Diagnoses with S&S Flashcards
(12 cards)
General early signs of shock
- pale, cool and clammy skin
- rapid HR/pulse
- rapid RR
General late signs of shock
- low BP
- AMS/ALOC
- weak or absent pulse
- dilate pupils
- slowed RR
General treatment for shock
- provide high-flow oxygen via NRB or BVM
- keep patient warm with blanket
- rapid transport
Cardiogenic shock
-inadequate function of the heart/pump failure
Distributive shock
-widespread dilation of small arterioles/venules causing blood to pool in the expanded vascular beds
- decreased tissue perfusion
Septic shock
result of severe infections
Neurogenic shock
-all vessels cut off from nerve impulses will dilate causing blood to pool
-usually the result of spinal cord injury
Hypovolemic shock
inadequate amount of fluid or volume in the circulatory system
Compensated shock
early stage ; body can still compensate for blood loss
Decompensated shock
late stage ; blood pressure is falling
Breathing signs of anaphylactic shock
- wheezing (lower airway narrowing)
- stridor (upper airway blockage)
- dyspnea
