define code of conduct
a code of conduct is a simple set of rules ninth way we must act when in the outdoors
they are associated with promoting safe and enjoyable participation for people engaging in various outdoor pursuits
why does urbanisation impact natural environments
urbanisation means that natural environments are impacted /suffer due to the need of extra land for the construction of houses, and industry
urbanisation define and example
refers to the development and physical growth of towns and cities
edithvale wetlands community education centre
positive of urbanisation referring to example
recognition of parks and reserves
provides community education on bird and native species, environments and protection strategies
importance
neg impacts of urbanisation example
land clearing removal of habitats and ecosystems decrease biodiversity levels disruption of ecosystem erosion of creeks and water courses water pollution from litter, soap petrol etc.....
urban sprawl
encroaching on and destroying natural environments
what is a direct impact
are those caused by the action and occur at the same time and place, usually observable
what is an indirect impact
are those that are caused by the action but not immediately. the happen before an event or later in time but are still reasonably foreseeable
snowmaking machine indirect
snowmaking machines are large and costly, manufacturing can alter ecosystems / landscapes
2. snow making occurs when water levels re low meaning water needs to be transported up the mountain. transportation uses energy burning fuel which pollutes the environment
snow making machine direct
depletion of water sources in order to make fake snow. negative impacts flora and fauna which rely heavily on the water source
2. snow season is extended which places extra strain on the environment leaving it little time to regenerate
conservation
is the preservation protection and management or restoration of the natural environment e.g. controlled burns, establishment of parks / reserves etc
recreation
is any activity for enjoyment, amusement or pleasure. can be undertaken as a nature or adventure based activity
tfn
trust for nature is a non profit organisation that works with private land owners. it has the objective of reducing environmental impacts through adopting policies, setting targets and developing environmental management startergies to achieve specific goals
how does tfn work
private land owners work with ten to put a permanent, legally binding agreement on a property to ensure that the native vegetation on the property is protected forever.
the agreement is voluntary and negotiated between ten and the land owner
recreation (where and activity )
Surfing at squeaky beach in Wilsons prom
OR
mount arapiles the pinnacle
Recreation pos
education
aesthetic values (beauty/ appreciation of nature)
fun/adventure
recreation neg
sand dune erosion
damage to primary sand dune flora species -kavealla
neg impacts on hooded plover nesting sites
conservation (where and activity)
lily pilly gully in Wilsons proms
Boardwalks
pos impact of conservation
reducing impact on the environment (people won’t be walking all over native species)
recognition and importance of protecting areas
education
reduces erosion
neg impacts conservation
have to remove some the existing environment to make way for the construction of the board walk
overuse of area –> increased damage
building permanent structures
major threats of urbanisation
land degradation
extinction of species
habitat loss
population increase
