Written or spoken language in its ordinary form, without any poetic, rhythm and rhyme
Prose
A conversation between two or more characters

Soliloquy
A monologue which reveals a characters, innermost thoughts and feelings

A French word, meaning, ‘category’ or ‘type’ e.g. comedy, tragedy, Gothic
Denouement
The conclusion of a narrative, in which the conflict is finally resolved
Dramatic irony
A situation where the development of the plot, allows the audience to know more about what is happening and some of the characters
Plot
The sequence of events in a narrative
Characterisation
how a writer constructs the character in order to convey their personality
Theme
The central idea/s , explored in a player of the literary work
Couplet
Pair of successive lines of verse typically, with corresponding rhyme or a meter
Protagonist
The main character or hero in a play or other literary work
Iambic pentameter
A line of writing that consists of 10 syllables in a specific pattern of an unstressed syllable, followed by a stressed syllable
Metre
Rhythmic pattern of a poetic line
Setting
When and where the action of a play takes place
Antagonist
The opponent or adversary of the hero or main character
Context
Any factors which eliminate our understanding of a text, such as the social, cultural, political historical literary environment in which the text is written and set
Parody
An imitation of a dramatic or literary work designed to ridicule the original
