Values
The expected ways of behaving in particular social positions e.g. Being a girl.
Role
Position in society and how people view you e.g. Being rich, famous or poor etc.
Status
The whole way of life in a society which includes language, food you eat,clothing,traditions and ethnicity.
Culture
Traditional forms of behaviour associated with particular social occasions.
Customs.

Identity
Accepting something so that it becomes ‘taken for granted’
Internalise
Socialisation in the very early years of life that passes on norms and values, cultural beliefs. Normally through parents.
Primary socialisation
Socialisation that continues through life. Education, the media, your peers and religion are important influences.
Secondary socialisation
Cultural skills, such as knowing how to behave, speak and learn, passed on by middle- class parent to their children.
Cultural capital
Ways of distinguishing between social groups through variations in aspects of culture, language,customs,power,wealth and status.
Differentiation
Opportunities or lack of them to acquire material, social and cultural rewards,such as jobs,qualifications and good health.
Life chances
Where rewards are given in the basis of achievement, i.e. Effort,ability and intelligence.
