Key Words Flashcards
(19 cards)
Atrioventricular Node
area at the top of the bundle of His, electrical impulses sent to ventricles
Cardiac Axis
the average spread of electrical activation (depolarisation) in the ventricles - seen from the front
Bifascicular Block
First degree heart block and bundle branch block
Bundle Branches
two main divisions, right and left, of the bundle of His
Conduction
the spread of electrical impulses through the heart
Deflection
An upward or downward shift in the ECG away from the baseline
Delta wave
early part of R wave, caused by activation spreading through an abnormal pathway in the Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome
Depolarisation
the spread of electrical impulses across cardiac cells
Ectopic Beat
a heart beat in which activation has begun somewhere other than the SAN.
Also known as extrasystole or premature contraction
Escape rhythm
rhythm emerges when the SAN fails
SAN is completely blocked by disease of the bundle of His
complete heart block
Fascicle
main two divisions of the left bundle branch, anterior and posterior
Lead
the electrical picture of the heart produced by comparison of the recording from two or more electrodes
Purkinje Fibres
terminal fibres of the bundle of His.
Specialised conduction tissue within ventricular muscle
Repolarisation
the return of activated heart muscle to its electrical resting state
Rhythm
the pattern of ECG complexes and the part of the heart where activation began
Sino atrial node
cardiac pacemaker
in the upper right atrium
highest spontaneous rate of depolarisation
Supraventricular rhythm
a rhythm originating anywhere above the ventricles
Trifascicular block
first degree heart block, left axis deviation and right bundle branch block
