Visitors
Any person visiting a country other than in which is a usual place of residence for less than a year
Tourist
A visitor who spends at least a night in the country visited
Excursion
A trip by a group of people for leisure or educational purposes
Domestic
People travelling and taking holidays within their own country
Inbound
Overseas tourists visiting the UK
Outbound
U.K. Residents taking holidays outside the UK
Short breaks
Weekend or mid-week break for 3 nights or less
Day visitor
A traveler or tourist who does not stay overnight in the place visited
Serviced accommodation
When a service is provided along with an overnight stay. Meals and housekeeping staff are also provided
Non-serviced accommodation
When no service is provided with your accommodation
Half board
This is when people go to a serviced accommodation and they get their breakfast and evening meals within the package
Full board
This package includes all you daily meals, breakfast, lunch and evening meal and it also includes drinks
Direct employment
People who would not have a job without the existence of the industry e.g hotel managers
Indirect employment
People who would have a job without the travel industry but are still benefitting from it e.g. Taxi drivers
Co-operative
Commercial organisation- shareholders must be either a customer or employee
Partnership
Commercial organisation- a company owned by 2-20 people
Public sector travel organisation
Non-commercial organisation- trace, and tourism facilities and service provided by the state
Public sector
Something which is fully owned by the government
Private sector
Something owned by shareholders or private individual designed to make a profit
Voluntary sector
Something run by people who are unpaid for their services
Seasonality
Tourism demand fluctuating over the course of the year
Perishability
The characteristic of something being perishable. In tourism the term is used to describe, for example, a particular hotel room on a specific flight: they cannot be stored and sold later, so they are perishable
Intangibility
The characteristic of not being touchable: a good is tangible whereas a service is intangible
Disposable income
The household income left after tax, housing and the basics have been paid
