KGCs/Admin Flashcards
(15 cards)
Change
This is where phenomena studied geographically are dynamic and can change at varying rates, varying times, over varying durations at different scales
Spatial Association
The degree to which things are similarly arranged over space and time
Movement
Change or expansion in location of one or more phenomena from its original location to a new location
Region
Definable area of the Earth’s surface that contains one or more common characteristics
Place
Parts of the Earth that are identified and given meaning to by people
Environment
Refers to the world around us. It comprises the interconnected living and non-living physical elements of the Earth’s surface and atmosphere as well as human made features and the human conditions of the place
Interconnection
This concept emphasises that all places and environments are interconnected in some way and that they do not exist in isolation
Process
Series of actions or steps leading to change in or preservation of phenomena
Distance
Absolute distance is the space between two points
Relative distance is the time it takes to travel from one location to the other
Psychological distance is the perception of distance
Cultural distance is the degree of similarity or difference in societal attitudes and social norms.
Distribution
The arrangements of features or objects on the earths surface
Scale
Size of something compared with something else
Small scale maps depict a larger area in less detail Large scale maps are used to depict a smaller area in larger detail
Sustainability
Meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs

- Conclusion
Possible Criterion for Evaluation
- Have the targets/aims been met?
- Are the targets/aims achievable?
- Is the response economically, socially and environmentally sustainable?
