. Seen by fellow Russians as someone who’d backed down - main factor in demise
. Compromise resulted in ‘hot line’ phone link - quick way of solving disputes and strengthened ‘peaceful co-existance’
Yugoslavia and Tito
. Managed to gain support from Hungarian Uprising. In 1958, visited Tito to offer help for future developments of Yugoslavia - improved relations
^ Argued allowing Tito certain amount of autonomy, Eastern European states encouraged to follow Yugoslavian model

. Communist parties in west lost support, dented prospect of communism spreading
. Got backing of other socialist states and China
. West also failed to intervene which helped communism propaganda
Relations with China
. By 1960s, China claiming they were real upholders of Marxism-Leninism. Caused communist parties to take sides - divided movement
^ Mao’s attempt to manipulate Soviets failed - showed China he was prepared to take strong position against them
