Kinematics in One Dimension Flashcards
(23 cards)
What is uniform motion?
When an object’s motion has a constant velocity.
Is circular motion uniform?
No, circular direction involves change in direction and thus is not uniform velocity.
Where does the acceleration of circular motion point to?
An object that is in circular motion will accelerate to the center of the circle.
What does the position time graph of uniform motion look like?
A linear line
What does the velocity time graph of uniform motion look like?
A constant line.
What does the acceleration time graph of uniform motion look like?
A line on 0.
What does the position time graph of accelerated (constant) motion look like?
A parabola.
What does the velocity time graph of accelerated (constant) motion look like?
A linear line.
What does the acceleration time graph of accelerated (constant) motion look like?
A constant line.
How do you calculate the new position of an object?
d2 = d1 + v*t
What is instantaneous velocity?
The velocity of an object at a single instant in time.
How do you calculate instantaneous velocity?
V = dr/dt = tangent to a point on the position time graph.
If given the position equation, how do you find the velocity equation?
Take the derivative of the position equation with respect to time.
If given the velocity equation, how do you find the position?
Take the integral of the curve.
What is the derivative of position?
Velocity
What is the derivative of velocity?
Acceleration
What is the integral of accleration?
Velocity
What is the integral of velocity?
Displacement
What is g?
It is the magnitude of gravitational acceleration, you only add - if the object is moving in that direction!
How do you tell if something is going in the negative or positive direction when analyzing an incline plane?
The direction of the s-arrow is the positive direction.
What is the free fall acceleration?
-9.80m/s IF down is considered negative.
How is the acceleration down an incline plane calculated?
a = gsin(x)
