Kinetic Particle Theory Flashcards
What is Kinetic Particle Theory
Kinetic Particle Theory states that all matter is made of tiny particles that are in constant random motion
Solid, Fixed Volume? why
Solid - Fixed volume because the particles are closely packed in an orderly manner and they cannot move about freely
Liquid, No Fixed Volume? why
Liquid - No fixed volume because the particles have weaker forces of attraction compared to the solid, are arranged disorderly and can move freely throughout the liquid
Gas, No Fixed Volume? Why
Gas - No fixed volume because the particles have weaker forces of attraction compared to the liquid, spread far apart from one another and have a lot of kinetic energy to move about rapidly in any direction
Solid, Fixed Shape? Why
Solid - Has fixed shape cause it cannot be compressed as it is already packed closely with one another
Liquid, Fixed Shape? Why
Liquid - Has a fixed shape, the particles of a liquid are spread further away from one another than the particles of a solid but it is still packed quite closely so it cannot be compressed
Gas, No Fixed Shape? Why
Gas - doesn’t have a fixed shape, the particles are spread far apart enough to be compressed since gas can be compressed it has no fixed shape (basically it takes the shape of whatever)
