Q

propeties of a solid

A

-fixed vol and shape
-the arrangement of particles is very closely packed in an orderly manner
-the movement of particle is vibration and rotate in fixed position
-the forces of attraction between particles is very strong
-kinetic energy of particles is very low

Q

properties of liquids

A
  • have fixed vol but takes on the shape of their containers
  • the movement of particles is closely packed in a disorderly manner
-particle movement, slide past eachother freely throughout the liquid
  • forces of attraction btwn particles is less strong
  • kinetic energy of particles is low
  • shape is indefinite
  • vol is defined
  • cannot be compressed

Q

properties of gases

A
  • gases take on the vol and shape of the containers
  • arrangement of particles is very far apart in s disorderly manner
  • particle movement, move quickly and randomly in any direction
  • forces of attraction btwn particles is very weak
  • kinetic energy of particles is high
  • shape n vol is indefinite
  • can be compressed

Q

what is transition temps

A

its when heating or cooling a substance, it does not just increase or decrease temp of substance, it changes the state of the substance at certain temps

Q

what happens to the particles in the food when it is heated up

A

when the food is heated, thermal energy is transferred to its particles. some of the energy is converted to kinetic energy. with greater kinetic energy, the particles move quickly.

8
Q

how is the temp of food decreased

A

when food is cooled, the kinetic energy of its particles is converted to thermal energy. the thermal energy is tranferred to its surrounding and is removed
