Q

The theme of Kings

A

The failure of the monarchies in light of the Deuteronomic covenant and Yahweh’s justification for exile

To those languishing in exile the author’s message is that God has not failed and his covenant has not been foiled. The very reason they were suffering is that Yahweh was faithful to his covenant and punished their sin. Yet there is hope, as seen in the restoration of the descendant of David, Jehoiachin, in exile.
