Kirchhoffs laws Flashcards
(13 cards)
What is Ohm’s law?
R = V / I
Ohm’s law relates resistance (R), voltage (V), and current (I) in DC circuits.
In a parallel circuit, how is the total current calculated?
I = I1 + I2 + I3
The total current in a parallel circuit is the sum of the currents through each branch.
In a series circuit, how is the total voltage calculated?
V = V1 + V2 + V3
The total voltage in a series circuit is the sum of the voltages across each component.
What does Kirchhoff’s current law state?
The sum of the currents entering a junction equals the sum of the currents leaving the junction.
Fill in the blank: According to Kirchhoff’s current law, I1 + I2 + I3 = _______.
I4 + I5
What is Kirchhoff’s voltage law?
Around any closed loop, the sum of emfs is equal to the sum of the volt drops.
What is the first step to solve a two-loop circuit problem?
Choose a direction of current in the circuit.
What is the second step in solving a two-loop circuit?
Consider each loop and derive an equation satisfying Kirchhoff’s laws.
What does the load current equal in a two-loop circuit?
I1 + I2
What are the two simultaneous equations derived from Loop 1 and Loop 2 in the example?
- 100 = 6.2 I1 + 4 I2
- 80 = 4 I1 + 7.1 I2
True or False: The assumed current direction in Loop 1 is based on the loop emf polarity.
True
After calculations, what is the current from the 100V battery?
13.92A
What is the load current in the example given?
17.35A
