Q

1 knee injury

A

*knee ligament tears:
-“blow” to the lateral side of knee
-knee damage will result to medial side
-the amount of tear will determine the surgical intervention and rehabilitation
-symptoms: rapid swelling, knee “buckles”, knee “pops”, inability to return to activity, loss of range
-the first tissue to tear is the joint capsule (if blow is severe), then the medial collateral ligament, medial meniscus, and ACL
-if all three tissues tear (ACL, medial meniscus, and medial collateral ligament), reconstructive surgery is required (most athletes return)
-if no surgery is needed, RICE principle
